Information Regarding Local Bus Lines

If you have newly relocated to Baltimore in Maryland and looking for details related to the different local bus lines, the subsequent sections will provide clear and useful information regarding the different local and commuter bus services. Local bus services are basically divided in to two major categories of local and commuter lines.

Local Bus Routes

There are totally 55 local lines in Baltimore. This includes the 47 normal local bus, 4 limited stop local routes and 4 express routes. The express routes basically connect the suburbs to the downtown. The limited stop route is also referred to as Quick routes. There are actually 4 bus services that cover this route. They are bus routes 40, 46, 47 and 48. All the local lines are basically denoted as North Bound, South Bound, eastbound and west bound routes. When looking for a particular line in the bus time table, you have to make sure that you are looking at the correct direction as the same line runs in both the directions. The quick routes 40, 46 and 47 serves the east bound and west bound commuters, the line 48 serves the North and South Bound locations such as Towson town center and University of Maryland Transit center. The express route that connects the suburbs to downtown serve four routes namely 104,120,140 and 160. Line 104 basically connects people moving between north and southern regions in and around the city. Line 104 that connect people in Eastern and Western regions, John Hopkins Hospital to downtown.

Commuter Bus Lines

Commuter lines operate only during the week days and help connect the thousands of commuters in suburban Maryland to reach their job locations in Baltimore and WashingtonD.C. There are totally 24 commuter bus routes that are operated by 5 different service providers. These five service providers include Atlantic Coach charters, Dillon service, Eyre service, Keller transportation and gold line. In addition to the 24 lines operated by these 5 service providers, Maryland Transport authorities have also come out with three new commuter lines. The commuter bus that starts from Baltimore and connects to other suburban regions in Maryland that includes Columbia, Bel Air, Laurel and Havre De Grace is also available.

By getting in to the online portal of Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), you could get the exact bus timing details for both the local and the commuter bus lines. The portal will also provide details related to route changes due to road maintenance work. You could also get details regarding delays in particular lines due to traffic congestion. You could also apply for a smart trip card through your company's benefits coordinator. Once you get the smart trip card, you could then create a smart benefit electronic account through your company's benefits coordinator. Using that smart benefit account, you could actually apply for the tickets through the online portal of Smart Benefit account. Thus the different local Bus lines help both the local people and also the visitors to reach different parts of Baltimore.
