The school system recently received an award from officials in China in recognition of its Chinese foreign language program.

The school system's director of foreign languages Rita A. Oleksak traveled to China last month after receiving an invitation from The Hanban ? China's national office for teaching Chinese as a foreign language. She attended the Confucius International World Leader's Conference where the school's program was recognized for being an "excellent Chinese language program."

The program was selected as one of the top 10 programs in the Confucius Classrooms Network for "its vision and commitment to world languages and global learning capacity in the United States." The Asia Society's Confucius Classrooms Network is made up of 25,000 students studying Chinese in more than 100 elementary, middle and high schools in 27 states and the District of Columbia.
